Waste Audit

The classroom trash was a good activity. We learned alot by seing what students throw away in our school. We had each a bag of trash that each class had to sort out. There was many different recycable trash that we could have used instead of throwing it to waste. For example there were pieces of paper and plastic bottles, things that we could reuse in the future.

We also weighed the bag to see how much the trash weighed. It was surprisingly heavy, well not much but more than usual. Here we had to get the scale to weigh the heavy bag before spraeding out the garbage.

After we weighed the garbage we dumped out the trash and sorted it out to put the trash in its corresponding recycling bin.

We then sorted the trash and put them in the bins to recylce. People didn't want to dig in and sort the trash out because it was nasty. There some food bowls that still had some food remainings and bottles with water in them. It was a good experience to know how janitors feel when cleaning after our mess. At the end, we had everyhting sorted out and ready to be recycled.

Liter Survey

The activity involved some Tennyson High School students who took pictures before and after lunch. Notice the cleaness before lunch and the amount of liter after lunch. This picture was taken in the quad of the school near by the cafeteria. Lots of students gather hear and eat on the tables, and after lunch, its not that clean as it was before. I chose these pictures because they really show how Tennyson students liter at school and when they liter. I think we can help this litering by showing our classmates how ugly and disgusting our campus looks after lunch.

Recycling at Home

This whole activity of recycling activity and using the 4r's has taught me why recycling is an important part of our lives. We have sorted out the recycling material from our school campus, we have taken pictures of before and after lunch and we have shown how we use the 4r's at home. That is how I know that recycling could affect our earth and environment that we live in. Recycling and composting is way more important than what people think, it could really change the way we live and it could affect our environment and peoples health. Recycling has taught me why it is and should be an important part in each of our lives.

An activity that we did during this experience was taking pictures of how we recycle at our homes and at Tennyson. It has shown me that recycling is important in order to have a healthy living or learning environment. Since the activities that we have done, I have helped even more in recycling at home and at school. School looks like a bad waste facility with no garbage cans or recycling bins instead of looking like a nice learning environment. Without recycling, school looks dirty and non-educational but we want a good-looking safe environment. That is why we should recycle.

We are trying to recycle here at Tennyson by getting recycling bins for every classroom at THS. Our goal is to get the recycling bins in each class so that students can start recycling and then by having them they will be helping the environment. Once we get recycling bins, leadership students will talk to every class about why we have recycling bins and what they are good for. The recycling bins will make a difference in school.By making that difference we will be helping ourselves by helping the earth.
